My relationship to my art is akin to that of my feet to the ground: I am always in contact with it, and it supports me wherever my journey takes me. Desi-Rae Campbell received national awards at a young age as an outstanding Jamaican youth artist, is primarily self-taught, and was born and raised on the island of Jamaica in the West Indies where she attended Campion College (campioncollege.com) in the country's capital - Kingston and became a Prefect, mainly studying the sciences and discovering art in her spare time. She further completed studies in biology and fine art at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York and business at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, both in the United States of America.

Desi-Rae has dialogued about free speech, privacy, and decentralization through her intellectual work. She is currently intellectually interested in grounding spiritual and emotional concepts into practical solutions, such as conscious spending. Desi-Rae worked as a Commercial Fisheries Observer (fisheries.noaa.gov/topic/fishery-observers) for two years, which directly impacted her personal ethics regarding food. She has also interned at and been a member of the Jamaica Environment Trust as well as interned at Jamaica’s National Environment and Planning Agency.

Desi-Rae hopes her art is inspiring, entertaining, or thought-provoking in some way. Her favourite mediums are oils and pastels. After conducting research highlighting the need in the fine art industry for sustainably and ethically produced art materials, Desi-Rae has a keen interest in setting the example in her use of materials that are kind to the planet and those involved in their making, pioneering this philosophy in the fine art landscape.

Desi-Rae's visual work is a way for her to observe and mimic the arrangements of light and space around her that she finds interesting, to release her thoughts in the form of imagery, to sound her message into the world. Her first love is portraiture. Her second is abstraction. Her ultimate canvas is life itself, the grand play in which we all take part.

She currently mainly resides in The United States of America.

I care, so Desi-Rae Arts cares - about you, what you’re looking for from the art, how the art is made, how materials are sourced, the environment, who makes the material, how they are treated, the quality of the product, and my being present in the making of the art. This means not rushing the process and taking steps to use the most ethical products available in the fine art industry as our planet moves towards making better decisions, as well as finding feasible solutions for unsolved problems as much as I can.

My artwork is a way into my mind’s eye for my own perusal and for that of others, to evoke the deeper feelings art can create, increasing the aesthetic sensitivity of an environment through the visual experience.

My intellectual work, education and discussion provide a space to find that spot in between our hearts and our minds.

I also wish to honour my Creator in all I do, and I choose to share my talent because it has been given to me for that purpose.
